Joanna Macaraeg, Psy.D.
Registered Psychological Associate

Supervised by Tanya Hilber, PsyD, PMH-C PSY24479

I will be a Registered Psychological Associate (PSB94028318) and am currently supervised by Dr. Tanya Hilber, Licensed Psychologist (PSY24479). I received my doctorate degree in psychology from California Southern University. My dissertation explored factors associated with parental stress among parents of children with autism. Additionally, I received my bachelor's and master's degree in clinical psychology at the University of Guam. I was raised in the U.S. territory of Guam, where I grew up in a multitude of cultures, such as Filipino, Chamorro, and American to name a few.

My therapeutic approach is collaborative, practical and empowering. I work with clients to identify their unique skills and address their overall wellbeing. As an AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) therapist, I also recognize the stigmas around seeking professional help and showing vulnerability, and I strive to provide a safe and compassionate environment. I use evidence-based therapeutic approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT).

Clinical Experience

I have experience and practice in working with children, adolescents, adults, and groups with Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, ADHD, and individuals experiencing Grief / Bereavement and Life Stressors.

I also have experience and practice in cross-cultural psychology / multi-cultural psychology and therapy. Additionally, I have personal experiences with military and Veteran populations by being a spouse of a combat Veteran who deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as neurodiverse conditions through my research dissertation and by being a parent of a neurodiverse child.

I am passionate about mental health, especially through my personal experiences. My other passions include reading novels, photography, and traveling. I enjoy exploring the world with my children and husband, and we have been to more than 30 countries.
